Mass. House Votes to Let Out-of-State Gay Couples Marry
UPDATE: MA Governor Patrick Signs Repeal of 1913 Law: Out of State Gays Clear to Marry in MA
But, will this help or hurt the long-term goal of marriage equality for gays & lesbians?
John Aravosis (AMERICABlog) makes an interesting case that it could backfire, since many Democratic and Republican politicians oppose the Federal Marriage Amendment because the DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act) says that states do not have to recognize another states same-sex marriages. What happens when states are forced to deal with gay marriages from other states? Will this take away the argument some "moderates" who oppose the FMA make that it is not necessary?
