Bush Sees Religious "Third Awakening"

President Bush told a group of conservative journalists in a closed session yesterday that he believes a "Third Awakening” of religious devotion is underway in the United States, coinciding with the struggle against terrorism he painted as “a confrontation between good and evil.” The First and Second Great Awakenings refer to waves of Christian fervor in American society in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, respectively.
