HRC Rates New Congress "Anti-Gay"

Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation's leading gay-rights advocacy organization, has studied the records of the members of the 112th Congress and it finds that the House of Representatives has flipped from a pro- to anti-gay-rights majority.

Thanks GOProud!

Republicans Reject Gay Rights

The Log Cabin Republicans have been very silent lately... their hero John McCain flip flops on listening to the military leaders on Don't Ask Don't Tell, and now even more evidence that the GOP is not the place for gays. Abraham Lincoln wold not even be welcome in the Republican Party today!

Poll: Republicans Reject Gay Rights

According to the Daily Kos, the poll was conducted by calling 2,003 self-identified Republicans nationwide between January 20 and 31. Notwithstanding the wisdom of putting gay rights up for debate in a poll, here are the relevant questions and results:

Should openly gay men and women be allowed to serve in the military?

Yes 26%
No 55%
Not Sure 19%

Should same-sex couples be allowed to marry?

Republican Party using Anti-Gay Innuendo Against TN Dem Candidate?

It looks like the Republican Party is up to it's old tricks in the race to replace TN Blue Dog Democratic Rep. John Tanner.

The NRCC has been quick to attack Tennessee state Sen. Roy Herron, who has emerged as the Democratic candidate for the seating of retiring Blue Dog Rep. John Tanner -- and along the way, they seem to be using some rather interesting rhetoric.

Herron is a former minister and an attorney, and he has taught at both the divinity and law schools at Vanderbilt, his alma mater. He has been married for 22 years, and has three sons. He has also written several books, including Tennessee Political Humor, How Can a Christian Be in Politics?, and God And Politics. However, the NRCC says Herron isn't being honest about his social liberalism.

Over the course of the past week, the NRCC has mounted a series of attacks on Herron that taken together could suggest they're trying to say that Herron is gay or effeminate. The NRCC denies that's their line of attack, and the Herron camp hasn't publicly raised the issue, but TPM takes a look at what the NRCC has been saying.

Is the NRCC Using Anti-Gay Innuendo Against Dem Candidate?

Values Voters Summit Highlight: "All Pornography is Homosexual Pornography"

Think Progress had someone videotaping at the Family Research Council's "Values Voters Summit" and they caught Michael Schwartz, the chief of staff for Republican Senator Tom Coburn (R-Oklahoma), saying some bizarre things about homosexuality and pornography. During a panel discussion on "The New Masculinity", Schwartz denounced pornography as a "blight" and a "silent disease" before stating that it causes young boys to become homosexuals.
Homosexuality is inflicted on people... But all pornography is homosexual pornography because all pornography turns your sexual drive inwards. And that in fact is what it does. I know couples now who are struggling with the husband's addiction to pornography. It's a terrible thing. And that's what happens. And, you know, if it doesn't turn you homosexual, it at least renders you less capable of loving your wife. And it's something you need to be healed of."
From Huffington Post

What is it about Oklahoma and anti-gay homophobic religious bigots? I was born there, but now I wish the Cherokee had killed off all the White People in that territory!

Republican Right-Wing Wage Racist/Sexist Attack Campaign on Sotomayor

Right Wing Hate Machine Launches Vicious Campaign of Racist and Sexist Attacks on Sotomayor

The rabid right-wing base of the Republican Party has launched a shocking racist (and sexist) campaign against Obama Supreme Court nominee Judge Sonia Sotomayor. Newt Gingrich has called her a "Latina Racist" and Rush Limbaugh, the great advocate of "color blindness", has launched his white racist campaign claiming Obama and Sotomayor hate white people. It gets worse...

The Republican right-wing is showing is UGLY head. Hopefully the American people will reject the racist hate campaign against Sotomayor and see through the right-wing rhetoric the truth--it is the right-wing which is being racist.

Even Republican Party leaders are getting nervous and trying to distance the party from the right-wing hate directed at her, warning that it will hurt the party, especially among the growing Latino voting population.

The Shrinking Republican Party

Sen. Arlen Specter has finally switched to the Democratic Party

While his defection is good news for the Democratic Party, it is not clear he will help pass Obama's progressive agenda on health care and other issues. He will probably side with "Blue Dog" DemoCons.

His defection is a reminder that the Republican Party continues to contract, especially outside the South, and that it appears increasingly less welcome to politicians and voters who do not consider themselves solidly conservative. Northeast Republicans have gone from an endangered species to a nearly extinct species. Republicans lost ground in the Rocky Mountains and the Midwest in the last two elections. That's no way to build a national party.

The latest Washington Post-ABC News poll shows the depth of the party's problems. Just 21 percent of those surveyed identified themselves as Republicans. That's the lowest since the fall of 1983, when just 19 percent identified themselves as Republicans. Party identification does fluctuate with events. But as a snapshot indicator, the latest figures highlight the impact of Obama's opening months on the Republican Party. From a high-water mark of 35 percent in the fall of 2003, Republicans have slid steadily to their present state of affairs.

It's hard to see how the Republican Party will become a majority party by denying science, global warming, siding with religious fanatics, supporting and defending torture, and promoting hatred of Barack Obama.

GOP Right-Wing Base Revolt

There is a Rebellion Brewing in the GOP Base

While Barack Obama's approval ratings remain high, anger is growing in the radical base of the Republican Party against Obama and the mainstream GOP "elites" who want to move the party away from the right-wing fringe. Gay marriage, in particular, seems to be one of their main issues, as more and more New England states, including many Republican leaders, embrace marriage equality.

The Reagan coalition, of socially liberal Northeast Republican capitalists with southern working class whites (including religious fundamentalists and racists) is falling apart. That's good news, unless the Republican Party follows their right-wing fringe base and ignores mainstream Americans, which seems to be the case right now.

The Republican Party will die if it continues to follow the direction of the religious fanatics, anti-gay bigots, racists, and global-warming denying idiots it calls its base.

Religious Fanatics & Bigots Have Destroyed the GOP

Religious Fanatics and Bigots are destroying the Republican Party, but only a few in the GOP seem to care. So far, the only Republicans who willing to take on the Republican Reich are John McCain's daughter, Meghan McCain, and McCain's former campaign manager, Steve Schmidt.

Meghan McCain may be the only Republican I can say anything nice about! She has taken on the right-wing fascists, like Ann Coulter, and has come out strongly in support of gay rights, including marriage equality (but why is she still a Republican??)

Revolting Republicans and Crazy Conservatives

The right-wing hate fest known as the Conservative Political Action Conference (GPAC) is always entertaining--and scary. From "Evolution is Science Fiction" bumper stickers to the deranged rantings from nuts like Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh, it's always an insightful look into the crazy world of American conservatism. Conservatives are not happy with George Bush or the Republican Party, but they REALLY hate "socialists" and Barack Obama. Socialist is the new "liberal" at this year's CPAC shin-dig. Everyone is a socialist now--even George W. Bush!

The theme at CPAC is that we must (a) cut taxes on the rich more (b) cut or eliminate corporate taxes (c) cut or eliminate capital gains taxes (d) increase defense spending (e) balance the budget and (f) protect "traditional family values" and marriage from the homos who want to get married and have their own families.

This is a group that thinks Sarah Palin is even QUALIFIED to be President of the United States!

Happy Birthday: Lincoln and Darwin

Today is the 200th birthday celebration of Abraham Lincoln and Charles Darwin. What do they have in common?

First, Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, saved the country from the "War of Southern Traitors" known as the Civil War, and is credited with freeing the slaves. He was probably the last great Republican President and would not recognize the Republican Party today, or would they recognize him as a Republican? He couldn't win a GOP primary today with these comments:

"I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety off my country...corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated n a few hands and the Republic is destroyed." (You should see it now Abe, thanks to your party!)

"Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if Labor had not firs existed. Labor is superior to capital, and deserves much the higher consideration."

"The strongest bond of human sympathy outside the family relation should be one uniting working people of all nations and tongues and kindreds."

(Did he say "Workers of the world unite!" ??? Lincoln was a MARXIST COMMUNIST!)

And to make matters even worse, Lincoln may have been the first "gay" President!

Charles Darwin was the father of modern biology and gave the scientific explanation for how life EVOLVED on planet earth--natural selection. No god or gods required. Most Americans still don't believe it! Polls show most people still cling to the myth of biblical creation by a sky god! And they control the Republican Party!

So what do Darwin and Lincoln have in common? They were both skeptics when it came to religion, and both challenged the majority opinion of their time with reason and truth. Both are anathema to the Christian Right and the Republican Party today!

Rush Limbaugh Less Popular than Jeremiah Wright!

GOP Standard Bearer Rush Limbaugh is Less Popular Than Jeremiah Wright
Congressional Republicans have turned to Rush Limbaugh to lead the battle against Obama. One problem: A poll says he's less popular than Jeremiah Wright.

Republicans who have turned to Rush Limbaugh to lead the fight against President Obama may have backed the wrong horse. According to one recent poll, Limbaugh turns out to be one of the most unpopular political figures in the country.

An October 24, 2008, poll conducted by the Democratic research firm Greenberg-Quinlan-Rosner has Rush Limbaugh enjoying a public-approval rating of just 21 percent among likely voters, while 58 percent have "cold" feelings toward the right-wing radio-talk-show host. Limbaugh's cold rating was higher than that of all the political figures the firm polled. It was seven points higher than Rev. Jeremiah "God Damn America" Wright and eight points higher than former Weather Underground domestic terrorist William Ayers. (As the firm points out in an email, it's true that Wright and Ayers both had lower "warm" ratings than Limbaugh--as you'd expect for men who have virtually no constituencies.)

Limbaugh is so unpopular that only 44 percent of Republican voters reported "warm" feelings toward him, ten points less than those who felt the same way about Limbaugh's top competitor, Fox News' Sean Hannity, and a full 20 points lower than Fox News itself. Yet in spite of rock-bottom favorable numbers, Limbaugh confidently declared one week after Obama's inauguration that his power far exceeded that of the Republican Party's top two leaders in the Senate and House of Representatives. Obama, Limbaugh roared, is "obviously more frightened of me than he is Mitch McConnell. He's more frightened of me, than he is of, say, John Boehner, which doesn't say much about our party."

Obama seems unfazed by El Rushbo. The president recently implored Republican leaders, "You can't listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done."

Despite Limbaugh's low popularity ratings, congressional Republicans are so intimidated by his perceived influence that even the most resentful members shamelessly grovel at his feet. He might have alienated vast sectors of the Republican base, but Limbaugh still commands an army of self-proclaimed "Dittoheads" who represent the party's most politically fervent, ideologically extreme, and easily shepherded element...

GOP Choose New (Black) RNC Chair--Michael Steele

African-American Michael Steele Elected Chair of RNC

Compared to the other neanderthal's in the GOP contest, Steele, former Maryland Ltd. Governor, seems like a "moderate," but how moderate is he? He compares medical stem cell research to Nazi experiments and joined in right-wing anti-gay rallies to oppose gay marriage, and he champions conservative "values." That was enough for Steele to win the support of the Log Cabin Republicans, and any hint of support from the LCR is usually the end of any Republican being elected to a leadership position in the anti-gay party.
Once again, perceived ties to the Log Cabin Republicans was used against Steele.
LCR Crapped on Again by RNC

While the LCR seem pleased with Steele and claim he is the right person to lead the GOP in a "new direction," Stonewall Democrats Question the Record of the new RNC Chair

Rush Limbaugh--The Voice of the Republican Party

It's 1992 all over again... a Democrat wins the White House, the Republican Party is in disarray, and Rush Limbaugh is once again the Voice of the Republican Party, leading the dildo-heads in their charge against liberalism, feminism, homos, an uppity black folks.

It's Rush Vs. Obama!

Why Listen to Republicans??

President Obama is trying to reach out to Republicans, especially on the economic stimulus plan, but it is doubtful they will return in kind. The GOP have become even more spiteful and grumpy since being booted by the American voters in 2008.
I applaud Obama for being a "gentleman" and trying to change the tone in Washington, but I hope he has a backbone to stand up to the GOP when they reject his offers of "post-partisan" kum ba ya.

House Republicans Urged to Oppose Stimulus Bill

But since Obama does not need any Republican support for the stimulus bill, why should he have to pander to them? HE WON the election! Democrats have the largest majorities in the House and Senate of any party in many decades! Fuck the Republicans!

Obama can try to reach out to the Republicans, but he must have the political backbone to respond to their ultimate rejection of a post-partisan sing-a-long.

Bob Herbert asks the right question, Why is Anyone Listening to The Republicans??

SHAME ON YOU JOHN MCCAIN!

I just want to get this out of my system before John McCain gets his ass handed over to him by Barack Obama on Tuesday:
SHAME ON YOU JOHN McCAIN!

SHAME ON YOU FOR:
Picking Sarah Palin! You said you would pick the MOST QUALIFIED person who could be PRESIDENT!
You said she was the “best person” to be Vice-President.. Are you INSANE???

YOU LIED! You didn’t put the “Country First”, you put YOUR GREED FOR POLITICAL POWER first!
You put the religious fanatics who control your neo-fascist party first!

John McCain, you promised to run a "decent" campaign that focused on the issues and NOT personal attacks against Barack Obama. YOU LIED!

SHAME ON YOU JOHN McCain!
Shame on you for running one of the MOST DIRTY, LOW, DISHONEST Campaigns in U.S. History!
You LIED! You Lied about Barack Obama being a Muslim, terrorist sympathizer!
YOU LIED about Obama being a “socialist”!
YOU LIED about Obama wanting to RAISE TAXES on working class people!
YOU LIED about the Iraq War!
YOU LIED when you accused Barack Obama of supporting the "murder" of babies and teaching sex to kindergartners!

Shame on the ignorant racists, Christo-fascists who supported you because they hate Muslims, black people and gays!

And SHAME on the racists Democrats who supported you!
SHAME on the bitter Hillary Clinton “supporters” who supported you because they bought into the hatred and lies about Barack Obama!
SHAME on the Uncle Tom Republicans (Black and Gay) who supported you because they support your neo-fascist agenda more than they care about the rights of their own community!

Obama won't say it but I will: John McCain, You are not a "maverick"--YOU ARE A LIAR!

Enjoy Election Night and good riddance!

GOP Playing "Gay Card" in N. Carolina

The Republican Party continues its war on LGBT people.

Republican Anti-Gay Mailer in North Carolina Senate Race

A new anti-gay offensive has been launched against Democratic North Carolina state senator and U.S. Senate candidate Kay Hagan. Campaign literature produced by the North Carolina Republican Party has been mailed to households in the state.

A new mailer in support of incumbent Sen. Elizabeth Dole claims that Hagan's agenda, with the help of "liberal judges," will be to advance a "radical homosexual agenda" which includes same-sex marriage, removing "Under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance, and forcing the Boy Scouts to accept gay and atheist troop leaders.

Hagan's opposition to an anti-gay amendment is the focus of the mailer. "Across America," it reads, "liberal judges are overturning state laws banning gay marriage. In North Carolina a state constitutional amendment is needed to protect traditional marriage and prevent liberal judges from imposing their gay marriage agenda on the state."
