Will Congress/Democrats Stop the War Machine? (No)

Did the U.S. Senate Just Authorize Military Action Against Iran?
By a vote of 76-22, the Senate passed the Lieberman-Kyl amendment, which threatens to “combat, contain and [stop]” Iran via “military instruments.” Sen. Jim Webb (D-VA) called the amendment “Cheney’s fondest pipe dream” and said it could “read as a backdoor method of gaining Congressional validation for military action.” (Hillary Clinton voted for it!)

Following the Senate, The House Passed A Resolution Condemning Moveon's Betray Us Ad (The Vote was 341-79) (Rep. Steve Cohen voted AGAINST it! It's great to have a real progressive representing us finally!)

And today, Defense Secretary Gates presented the Bush Administration's request for an additional $190 billion for the military. If approved, Congress would have appropriated more than $760 billion for the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, having already approved of $450 billion for Iraq and $127 billion for Afghanistan.

Will Democrats stand up to the military-industrial complex's war machine? Don't hold your breath!

In Wednesday's Democratic Debate on MSNBC none of the leading Democratic Presidential candidates would commit to pulling all U.S. troops out of Iraq by 2013!
